At the beginning of this course, my goal was to strengthen my digital storytelling and branding skills while aligning with my Personal Development and Leadership (PDL) timeline goals. As the owner of Morsitas Mind, a bilingual digital marketing and graphic design company, I wanted to learn strategies to connect with audiences, enhance brand visibility and implement effective PR campaigns. This 28-day course allowed me to apply academic concepts directly to my business, fostering personal and professional growth.
One major takeaway was the power of digital storytelling in building brand engagement. Crafting compelling narratives helps brands connect emotionally with their audiences. I applied this concept to Morsitas Mind’s website by focusing on telling the story of empowering Latino and Hispanic entrepreneurs through creative design and marketing services.
Another key learning was developing a strong PR strategy using media research and multi-channel distribution. The press release distribution plan taught me how to utilize press rooms, media kits and targeted outreach to increase visibility. This skill will be critical in executing the PR portion of my Digital Marketing Plan (DMP).
I also gained a deeper understanding of SEO, keyword analysis and PPC strategies, which will help optimize website traffic and guide data-driven ad campaigns. Personally, this course enhanced my leadership and organizational skills. Balancing the responsibilities of being a graduate student, mother of three and business owner taught me the importance of time management and consistent reflection despite the challenges. These skills will help me continue to align my coursework with my business goals.
Integrating PR Strategy into My Final Project (IMP)
This course has been instrumental in shaping the Public Relations (PR) section of my Integrated Marketing Project (IMP). Beyond creating press releases, I have learned that PR strategically supports brand growth through media relationships, reputation management and targeted messaging that influences perceptions and actions. Key tools from this course that I will apply to my IMP include:
Press Releases and Messaging: I will adapt press releases for specific media outlets and social media platforms to ensure consistent yet tailored communication.
Distribution Strategy: This includes outlining media outlets, influencers, and timing strategies to build brand credibility.
PR Calendar: I will use the PR calendar from my distribution strategy to coordinate outreach and track engagement.
Measurement Plan using Barcelona Principles: I will evaluate the success of PR campaigns through measurable outcomes, such as impressions, engagement, conversions and shifts in audience perception. From a strategic perspective, PR in my IMP will focus on influencing key stakeholders including local businesses, potential clients and industry partners. By reporting on company news and industry-related information, I can strengthen Morsitas Mind’s brand reputation and drive meaningful engagement. Incorporating the Barcelona Principles ensures that my PR efforts are not only creative but also measurable and aligned with organizational goals. This course has ultimately enhanced my research and writing skills, which are vital in consulting and strategic marketing roles. By leveraging PR as both a tactical and strategic tool, I can advance my organization’s goals, support the DMP and deliver a comprehensive and measurable PR strategy within my IMP.
